And it\u2019s how our clients feel when they ask us for help creating their first product listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s the thing\u2015creating an Amazon product listing is perhaps the most fundamental thing you need to know how to do to be successful on Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an Amazon seller, your listing essentially acts as both your storefront and your product packaging if you were to sell a physical product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like how an attractive storefront and packaging help attract customers, so too does your listing entice customers to click. Buyers usually make up their mind about your product within 20 secs of clicking onto your listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listings provide everything the customer needs to know for them to decide whether to purchase your product or not. You need to know where to go and what to click on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s take it one step at a time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Determine Category<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step is to assign a category to your product. You may find your product\u2019s category in one of two ways: either using the search feature or by manually browsing through categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"701\" height=\"588\" src=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-42.png\" alt=\"amazon listing select a product category\" class=\"wp-image-82148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-42.png 701w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-42-300x252.png 300w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-42-150x126.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For the sake of simplicity, I prefer to just use the search feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you input the name of your product into the search bar, you\u2019ll get a bunch of different results, some of which are very similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not sure what category to choose, take a look at what category your competitors are in, and go with whatever the majority is in. That said, if you have a good reason to be in another category, then go with that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Fill Out Vital Info<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now for the fun part\u2015actually fleshing out your listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first tab you\u2019ll need to work on is <em>Vital Info<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"297\" src=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description-1024x297.png\" alt=\"amazon listing vital info\" class=\"wp-image-82142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description-1024x297.png 1024w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description-300x87.png 300w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description-768x223.png 768w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description-150x43.png 150w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/listing-description.png 1114w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s walk through each of the major fields in the tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Product Name<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Your product name or title will be visible in the search results before people decide to click on your listing, so keep that in mind as it will play a big part in your clickthrough rate (CTR).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Amazon\u2019s algorithm uses it to help rank your listing, so it should contain as many relevant keywords as possible. Ideally, you want to strike a balance between satisfying the customer while also satisfying the algorithm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about optimizing your title, <a href=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/amazon-listing-optimization-6-must-know-tips\/#1_Product_Title\">check out our title guide and template here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Manufacturer &amp; Brand Name<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re selling your own private-label product, just fill out your brand name for both of these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Product ID<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where you&#8217;ll input your product&#8217;s unique barcode number. Don&#8217;t have one? You may be entitled to an exemption<strong><em>\u2014<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"#exemption\">read our section here<\/a> to see if you qualify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Product Information<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the category, there may be additional fields for you to fill out not visible in the example image above. The rest of these fields, like colour, shape, etc. is optional but highly recommended. It\u2019ll help give Amazon more information about your product which could potentially boost its organic ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re ever unsure about what Amazon is asking from you, you can hover over the info icon to read an explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. So for example, if you\u2019re selling 6 different colours, you\u2019ll need 6 different barcodes. However, if you have a GTIN exemption, you <em>do not <\/em>need to provide additional barcodes. More info on this <a href=\"#exemption\">below<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Fill Out Offer Tab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up is the <em>Offer Tab<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"837\" height=\"457\" src=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-43.png\" alt=\"amazon listing offer tab\" class=\"wp-image-82150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-43.png 837w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-43-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-43-768x419.png 768w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-43-150x82.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Price<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where you put your selling price, as well as any sale prices you may decide on (this field will appear after you create your listing).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When first launching your product, it\u2019s recommended that you want to have a competitive price (so not the highest), but also avoid massively undercutting the competition because you don\u2019t want to be seen as cheap\/low quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve hit <strong>Save and finish<\/strong> and created your listing, you can come back to this tab and you&#8217;ll see a few more fields you can fill in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Manufacturer\u2019s suggested retail price<\/strong>: this is <em>not <\/em>the price your customer will pay. In theory, it\u2019s supposed to be the highest price that theoretically you could sell your product for if you weren\u2019t so generous. On your actual listing, it\u2019ll appear as the <em>List Price<\/em>. In the end, it essentially acts as an \u201canchor price\u201d, giving your customer a sense of comparison. If you play it right, your customer will feel like they\u2019re getting a good deal.<\/li><li><strong>Sale price<\/strong>: this is the actual price your customer will pay.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This will create a struck out price with your sale price listed next to it, like so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"221\" height=\"67\" src=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9673f72510ba04aa7f4797d4586121b146a80788.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9673f72510ba04aa7f4797d4586121b146a80788.png 221w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9673f72510ba04aa7f4797d4586121b146a80788-150x45.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that for some categories, it will not show up like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more info on how to find that sweet spot for price, <a href=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/amazon-conversions\/#Find_the_Right_Price\">check out our article here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seller SKU<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where you input your seller SKU. If you don\u2019t have one, Amazon will automatically generate one for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Condition<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where you input the selling condition of your product. If you\u2019re private label, you click \u201cnew\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fulfillment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, you will input the fulfillment method of your inventory\u2015FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) or FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Enter Compliance Data<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This next section is where you provide any battery information about your product (if applicable), as well as upload any Safety Data sheets or note warnings like Prop 65.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that this section will not be visible for some categories (since it&#8217;s not relevant).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. If you\u2019re uploading photos that\u2019s a variant of a Parent-Child relationship, you\u2019ll want to look for the image slot titled \u201cSWATCH\u201d. Description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now once you&#8217;ve created your listing, you&#8217;re gonna want to come back and fill this tab out (it only appears after you create it). The <em>Description <\/em>tab is contains the meat of your listing. It\u2019s divided into two sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Key product features.<\/li><li>Product Description.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Product Features<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Key Product Features<\/em> are basically the bullet points that appear at the top of your listing like this one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45-1024x528.png\" alt=\"apple earpods amazon key product features\" class=\"wp-image-82155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45-1024x528.png 1024w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45-768x396.png 768w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45-150x77.png 150w, https:\/\/oodevs.com\/kenjiroi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/screenshot-45.png 1053w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some general pointers to keep in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The algorithm checks your this section for keywords to help determine your listing\u2019s ranking, so make sure to shove as many relevant keywords in here as possible. That said, don\u2019t turn it into a keyword-salad\u2015your customers will just click away.<\/li><li>Amazon says they limit you to 100 characters per field, but they don\u2019t actually limit this when you write them. I haven\u2019t really heard of Amazon cracking down on this. But my advice is to keep the bullet points short and sweet, since your customers pretty much have the attention span of a goldfish.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Product Description<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Product Description <\/em>field allows you to write a more in-depth summary of all your product\u2019s features and benefits. This will make your product description end up being one massive ugly block of text. Make sure to use an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzdatastudio.com\/user\/html-converter\">HTML editor<\/a> instead so that you can format it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, try not to repeat the same stuff you said in your bullet points, or at least phrase it differently. Keywords<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Keywords <\/em>tab is for you to input additional keywords that won\u2019t appear on your listing, but will help the algorithm identify and rank your product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to save your main, high-volume high-relevancy keywords for your title and description. Any other keywords that don\u2019t make it to your main listing, you\u2019ll want to add those in here. Fill all these out and simply stuff as many additional keywords as you can into this section. Don\u2019t worry, no one will see them, so you don\u2019t need it to be pretty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is, only one more tab left!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. More Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The last tab, woohoo! This tab simply is for the nitty-gritty details of your product. As such, what it looks like will depend on what your product is, so we won\u2019t be able break it down here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, it is very self-explanatory. You simply walk through each field and fill it out as best you can.
